The World`s First Handheld Calculator!
Are you tired of doing tedious math equations, never-ending paperwork,
and trying to figure out your bills with pen and paper? Then
you need the new and enhanced world`s smallest
handheld EL-8 calculator made by Sharp Enterprises.
In recent November, 1970 the EL-8 the smallest electronic calculator in the world was released by Sharp Enterprises. It features a single memory register, a double-precision multiplication mode, and an extra row of memory keys. These machines are basic 4-function 8-digit calculators, operating from an internal NiCad battery pack and a specialized external charger. They are built with our new innovative technology, using multiple MOS-LSI integrated circuits, glass reed switches in the keyboard, and individual fluorescent display tubes. The calculator with its internal battery pack weighs a shocking only 720g. You also have a choice between black or white color scheming.
ELSI chip detail.
The chip technology used in the EL-8 was developed by Rockwell in America as part of their involvement in the Apollo space program. It is a extra large scale integration (ELSI), with twice the performance of ordinary LSI and more than ten times that of standard (DTL) ICs. It also features eight individual vacuum fluorescent display (VFD) tubes.

The "large-screen" display has a single row of eight numerals,
with the minus and error indicators at the top right and the power supply alarm
indicator at the top left. This magnificent invention features addition and
subtraction working normally, using "+/=" or "-/=" after each entry. Use can
also multiply up to two eight digit numbers to produce a sixteen digit number!
The EL-8 has an additional row of four memory keys at the top of the keyboard.
The "M/D" key at the top right is a latching push-button which switches between
memory functions and a "double-precision" multiplication mode. These modes are
used for recalling previous calculations and numbers. This way you will be able
to do long mathematical equations with ease. The memory can be cleared at any
time with the CM button and recalled with the MR button and can be used at any
stage during doing math.

This calculator is especially useful for anyone who does math for a living or for anyone who doesn`t want to spend relentless amounts of time doing math that the EL-8 could easily do for you!
This invention was important to the time period of the 1970`s because it enabled the common citizen and companies to be able to do calculations quicker and faster. Before the calculators were huge and even more expensive than the 345$ the EL-8 was. Now the calculators do a lot more then the EL-8 could do. They do square roots, graph equations and simplify fractions.
